Commissioned as a layered panel, this work consists of multiple smaller panels overlapping to form a unified whole. More than a visual composition, it is a relic, an artifact from a world where nature rapidly reclaimed what was once taken from her.
The story of Earth-34189 unfolds during the great outbreak, a turning point where humanity, despite its technology and structures, could no longer resist the primal force of nature. As cities choked under expanding roots and concrete walls fractured under relentless branches, this world left behind an echo—captured in this work.
Inscribed along the edges of the panels is the first part of the first sacred book of Metamelei, a text that travels through time as a lost message. This script, carefully described along the work’s borders, carries the wisdom and reflections of a world that was forced to bow before the power of the earth.
The panels are covered with a unique, handmade paper infused with traces of flowers, leaves, and grass—symbols of nature reclaiming its place. These organic inclusions form not just a texture, but a memory, a visual and tangible connection to the life force of a recovering planet.
The drawings spread across the panels depict roots pushing through cracks, seeds finding their way into abandoned spaces, and structures inevitably reclaimed by nature. The fragmented nature of the work mirrors the disintegrating world, with each shifting layer marking a moment in its transformation.
With "The Last Stand", I continue the line of Metamelei—the eternal dance between humanity, nature, and technology. This work serves as a reminder of the fragile balance, a vision of what was and what is to come.
