Alter modernism - where technology meets nature
Thai in a Japanese Style
This series reflects a world in motion.
As distances grow smaller, cultures no longer exist in isolation — they meet, overlap, and subtly reshape one another.
I am a Dutch artist, working in Thailand with a Thai model, inside a Japanese-inspired setting.
Shibari, rooted in Japanese tradition, becomes the connecting language — not as a rigid system, but as a shared physical and emotional practice.
The work does not aim to define or explain cultures.
Instead, it observes what happens when they coexist: how the body adapts, how gestures shift, how meaning is carried through touch, rope and presence rather than symbols or borders.
This series is about globalisation on a human scale.
Not politics or theory, but lived experience — where identity is layered, influence is mutual, and intimacy becomes the place where cultures quietly meet.
The images hold tension, restraint and trust, shaped by collaboration rather than ownership.
They exist in-between — between places, traditions and people — mirroring the way we increasingly live and create today.
