After a long time, I carefully stepped back outside again with my art. A kind of solo presentation, but sharing the floor with an old master: Kees van der Weteringen. We were blessed with beautiful weather that weekend, and with an attendance of 350 to 400 people, I look back on it as a wonderful experience.
In the place I know as the former Octopussy Dive Shop, and before that, for the older generation, Café Annex, if I have written that correctly, Kees and I were allowed to occupy the first floor. A sea of light and a magnificent view, 270 degrees over, among other things, the Oosterschelde. It is a dilapidated building, and only the bare essentials have been restored. Pieces missing from the walls, holes from previous interventions. Holes in the floor patched with a plank. What a glorious space.
Yes, I could already see my refined, detailed drawings hanging there. I also immediately saw how I had to present “Missess Devana”. Large, imposing, and spatial. I always want to do something more than just a drawing. I want to strengthen the power of the visual language of a drawing, and on that wall they had to be placed 10 to 20 cm away from the surface. Thanks to my father, it became a simple triptych, presented as three true goddesses.
I was allowed to borrow the display panels from Fotoclub Goes to present the Shibari series. I chose a large part from the first series and six pieces from the new series. That was something unique for the visitors. Although it was not for everyone, and some people at the back still secretly scanned the QR code, it was generally well received. Also by the board of the Art and Nature Route Wemeldinge.
I also hung “Ruined Perspectives”, “Tribute H.R. Giger”, “As a Greek Goddess” and “Metamorphose”. I was able to exhibit “The Cube” again because I had the space, and I also hung the first three panels of “In Memory of the Fallen”. So when you came upstairs, it made sense to first walk past Kees’ work and then weave back past the Shibari series, with the larger works as a final treat for the eye.
My thanks to all the visitors, for all the praise I was fortunate to receive, and for the new contacts I made. It was a true pleasure to make your day a little more beautiful, and to offer a small pause in the busyness of daily life. Until the next encounter…
Yes, that encounter will be very soon, because in the same Octopussy Dive Shop building, I will be organizing something again together with Wout Kole. I am replenishing my chalk… Will you come and see how I make a dilapidated building a little more beautiful?
